The Liferaft Challenge returns in 2014!

Could you spend 24 hours in a liferaft?

Sail 4 Cancer supporters around the UK will be spending 24 hours in a liferaft on different dates during Spring 2014 to raise awareness of the 1,000 people who are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every 24 hours.

Title Sponsor: Ocean Safety

Ocean Safety will be supplying all the equipment for the challenge:

  • 8 & 25 man liferafts
  • Paddles
  • Llife jackets
  • Immersion suits

Our thanks to everyone at Ocean Safety for their support!

Sail 4 Cancer was the first charity in the UK to stage such an event in 2003. Since then the event has been slowly gathering momentum.

For 2014, the challenge will take place in different locations around the UK.

21st - 22nd March - Team Warsash
10th-11th May - Poker Playing Sea Dogs
16-17 August - The Ultimate Liferaft Challenge

Commenting on the challenge, Sail 4 Cancer's Chairman, Graham Precey, said:

"In the same way that liferafts provide a lifeline when something goes badly wrong at sea, Sail 4 Cancer's days out and short-breaks for families affected by cancer provide a lifeline in often very difficult circumstances. They provide hope and give families something good to look forward to during arduous treatment schedules.

Nearly 1,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every 24 hours. This is a tough challenge and I can say that with conviction - I took part last year! BUT it's nothing compared to what most families living with cancer have to go through on a daily basis. This challenge is designed to raise awareness of the scale of the problem and raise funds to help people deal with difficult circumstances."
