to spend 24 Hours in a Liferaft

Justin White from the Warsash Maritime Academy is preparing to brave the elements and experience what every sailor hopes they NEVER have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.

On Friday 21st March a team of students from Warsash Maritime Academy (part of Southampton Solent University), including Justin, will clamber into their raft and commence learning at first hand just what it would be like to be cast adrift as their boat sinks behind them. But this challenge is not only a chance to enhance their studies, but a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for those whose difficult times will last a great deal longer than 24 hours - UK families living with cancer.

Justin says:

"I used to be a beach lifeguard, now I'm a Deck Cadet sponsored by Maersk studying at Warsash Maritime Academy. My reason for taking part in the Liferaft 24 Challenge is twofold. Working at sea involves real risk which in exceptional circumstances can lead to loss of life, that's why as a seafarer I want to take this opportunity to get experience aboard this life saving piece of equipment. I suspect surviving in a liferaft will be difficult and stressful, but hopefully I can win your support and together we can raise enough money for Sail 4 Cancer to provide cancer patients and their families with the break they deserve.
