to spend 24 Hours in a Liferaft
Amanda Rees from the Warsash Maritime Academy is preparing to brave the elements and experience what every sailor hopes they NEVER have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.
Amanda says:
"I am a 27 year old Deck Cadet studying at Warsash Maritime Academy under the sponsorship of Carnival UK. I am thoroughly enjoying the course and looking forward to all it has to offer!
In our first week at Warsash, Sail 4 Cancer approached us with an exciting challenge that would involve spending 24 hours in a liferaft tethered to the Academy's pierhead on the River Hamble. It is a charity event organised by Sail 4 Cancer to raise funds and awareness for the hundreds of us that are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day.
The Liferaft Challenge is a test of endurance and an opportunity for us to develop our sea survival training but most importantly, it is an opportunity for us to raise as much money as possible for Sail 4 Cancer to enable them to continue providing care and respite to those in need.
