Ana, Simon, William & Ricky from the Warsash Maritime Academy are preparing to brave the elements and experience what every sailor hopes they NEVER have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.
"I am a Phase One Engine Cadet with Royal Caribbean Cruises. As someone entering the maritime industry, this is an experience I hope never to repeat in my life. We are in a unique position where we can not only test our nerve, patience and endurance, but raise money for a most deserving cause. At some point in our lives, each of us will have to face cancer in some way. Be that in fighting cancer ourselves, having a family member or loved one fall ill or simply consoling a friend who is going through this. Sail 4 Cancer offer families the opportunity to make wonderful memories together at this sad time. Please join me in making this possibility a reality for as many families as we can. With your donations, we can really make a difference."
"I am a Phase One Engine Cadet for Princess Cruises studying at Warsash Maritime Academy. I believe the Sail 4 Cancer 24 hour life raft survival challenge, is a brilliant opportunity to test my endurance, both mentally and physically, while raising money for a good cause. Last year, my granddad passed away having suffered from cancer at the beginning of my cadetship. Over the years in which he was diagnosed, he became very ill from cancer therapy, and I could see how unhappy it made him. He was limited to what could do and was constantly in and out of hospital. I was unable to communicate with him when I came to Warsash, and I felt guilty that I couldn't talk to him before he passed. Sail 4 Cancer gives families the opportunity to experience something that they might be unable to do otherwise."
"I am taking part in the Sail 4 Cancer 24 Hours in a Lifeboat Challenge, to raise money for a worthwhile cause that gives families the chance to spend time together and "take a break" from current hardships."
"I am a first phase student at Warsash Maritime Academy, where I am studying Marine Engineering.
I have decided to take part in this challenge to help a great charity and support them to do the great work they are doing, by giving families great memories of their loved ones in times of great hardship. For which 24 hours in uncomfortable conditions is a small price to pay!"
