to spend 24 Hours in a Liferaft

Jessie Boulton from the Warsash Maritime Academy is preparing to brave the elements and experience what every sailor hopes they NEVER have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.

On Friday 21st March a team of students from Warsash Maritime Academy (part of Southampton Solent University), including Jessie, will clamber into their raft and commence learning at first hand just what it would be like to be cast adrift as their boat sinks behind them. But this challenge is not only a chance to enhance their studies, but a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for those whose difficult times will last a great deal longer than 24 hours - UK families living with cancer.

Jessie says:

"I am 20 years old and in my second year of study at Warsash Maritime Academy training to become a Deck Officer, under the sponsorship of Holland America Line. I am keen to take on the challenges of what conditions could be like in a liferaft for real, without the safety of being in a swimming pool, or being in warmer climates! It will be an exhausting but rewarding experience.

I'm also very glad to be able to support such a great charity. Having personally lost a relative to cancer it makes it extra special to be able to do something to help out. So please sponsor me!"
