Martin Goodhew

to spend 24 Hours in a Liferaft

Martin Goodhew

Martin Goodhew from the Warsash Maritime Academy is preparing to brave the elements and experience what every sailor hopes they NEVER have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.

On Friday 21st March a team of students from Warsash Maritime Academy (part of Southampton Solent University), including Martin, will clamber into their raft and commence learning at first hand just what it would be like to be cast adrift as their boat sinks behind them. But this challenge is not only a chance to enhance their studies, but a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for those whose difficult times will last a great deal longer than 24 hours - UK families living with cancer.

Martin says:

"I'm a Deck Officer Cadet studying at Warsash Maritime Academy.

Although living with cancer is hugely challenging and often difficult, there are some great organisations that provide patients with help and support when they need it most. Sail 4 Cancer is one such charity, providing valuable respite from the hardship of the disease.

With nearly 1,000 people diagnosed with cancer every 24 hours, the Liferaft Challenge is an excellent way to raise money for Sail 4 Cancer and help them continue providing invaluable respite care to cancer patients and their families."
